Dr. Poonam Sooknanan, PT, DPT

Dr. Poonam Sooknanan graduated from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in 2000. She holds degrees in Bachelors of Health Science, Masters of Physical Therapy, and Doctorate of Physical Therapy. Poonam has gained extensive experience working in a variety of settings, ranging from Occupational Medicine, Spinal Chord Rehabilitation, and Sports Medicine. She has served as Director of Rehabilitation, and has been a mentor and Clinical Educator within every position she has held. Poonam greatly enjoys teaching others what she has gained from outstanding mentors, and extensive continuing education. She worked at Rutgers University, where her exceptional performance earned her a promotion from Clinical Instructor to Assistant Professor. She sincerely enjoyed serving the inner city pediatric population for nine years. Poonam also served as Teaching Assistant within the Rutgers Doctoral Physical Therapy Program. She has worked in early intervention, private and public schools, pediatric and adult outpatient centers, and with home based private clients of all ages. Poonam uses her experience to treat children with Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Down's Syndrome, Multiple Disabilities and orthopedic related injuries. She works with procurement and management of durable medical equipment, including orthotics and wheelchairs. Poonam aims to provide each child the most superb individualized treatment with constant program development, and collaboration. Poonam lives in Essex County with her husband and two wonderful children.
