What Is ABA Therapy and How Does It Help Children with Autism
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy is a scientifically proven approach that helps children with autism spectrum disorder develop crucial life skills and reduce challenging behaviors. Our compassionate team understands that every child is unique, and we're committed to creating a nurturing environment where your child can thrive and reach their full potential.

Through positive reinforcement and evidence-based techniques, ABA therapy addresses the core challenges of autism by breaking down complex skills into manageable steps. Research consistently shows that early and intensive ABA intervention leads to significant improvements in communication, social interaction, and adaptive behaviors that last a lifetime.

The benefits of our ABA programs extend far beyond the therapy room. Children develop enhanced language and communication abilities, improved social skills for meaningful relationships, and better self-regulation strategies. Most importantly, they gain the confidence and independence needed to participate fully in family life, school, and their community.

How does ABA therapy work? How does ABA therapy work?
ABA is based on the understanding that behavior is learned and can be changed through structured techniques. Therapists observe behavior, identify what influences it, and implement strategies to encourage positive actions and reduce negative ones.
Positive reinforcement
Positive reinforcement is a core technique in ABA. It involves offering a reward immediately after a desired behavior occurs, increasing the likelihood that the behavior will happen again. Rewards can include praise, toys, activities, or other preferred items.
The following three steps – the "A-B-Cs" – help us teach and understand behavior:
Antecedent
What happens before the behavior occurs - the trigger or setting event
Behavior
The specific, observable behavior that we want to understand or change
Consequence
What happens after the behavior - the response or outcome
Behavior modification
Behavior modification involves systematically applying learning principles to change behavior. This includes identifying target behaviors, implementing interventions, and measuring progress.
Positive behavior support
Positive behavior support focuses on teaching appropriate behaviors while reducing challenging behaviors through environmental modifications and skill-building strategies.
Early intervention programs
Early intervention programs use ABA principles to support young children's development, focusing on building foundational skills during critical developmental periods.

Looking at A-B-Cs helps us understand
By examining the Antecedent (what happens before a behavior), the Behavior itself, and the Consequence (what follows), we can better understand why certain behaviors occur. This insight allows therapists, educators, and caregivers to identify patterns and make informed decisions on how to encourage positive behaviors and reduce negative ones. The A-B-C model is a foundational tool in ABA that helps uncover the function behind actions and guides effective intervention strategies.
Example:
Antecedent
The teacher says "It's time to clean up your toys" at the end of the day.
Behavior
The student yells "no!"
Consequence
The teacher removes the toys and says "Okay, toys are all done."

-
What age is best to start ABA therapy?Early intervention is key to maximizing outcomes. While ABA therapy can benefit children of all ages, research shows that starting between ages 2-6 years old typically yields the most significant improvements. However, it's never too late to begin - older children and even adults can benefit from ABA interventions tailored to their developmental level.
-
Does insurance cover ABA therapy? Most insurance plans are required to cover ABA therapy for autism spectrum disorder. We work with major insurance providers and will help you navigate the authorization process. Our team handles most of the paperwork and will verify your benefits before starting services. We also offer payment plans for families who need additional support.
-
How long does ABA therapy last? The duration of ABA therapy varies for each child based on their individual needs and goals. Some children may benefit from intensive therapy for 1-3 years, while others may need ongoing support for longer periods. We regularly assess progress and adjust the intensity and focus of therapy as your child develops new skills and reaches their goals.
